Julius Caesar

for 7 to 11 year olds performed in your school

“What an absolutely amazing experience! I have never seen Shakespeare brought to life so vividly and the complete engagement of our children was a total delight to behold.” West Chiltington Primary School, West Sussex

A storyteller and four Young Shakespeare Company actors perform Shakespeare’s gripping historical drama in a fast-moving fully-costumed interactive production. The play is brought vividly to life around and among the children, at times including the whole audience to create such dramatic scenes as the bustling Roman market place, the Senate House meeting at which Julius Caesar is assassinated and the Battle of Phillipi at which the future of the empire is decided.

Throughout the performance the children become actively involved in the play through a carefully structured range of drama and language activities. They are encouraged to explore the motives, thoughts and feelings of the characters, predicting, for example, what might happen after Caesar has been murdered. Will Brutus and Cassius take power or will Mark Antony try and stop them? Volunteers from among the children are also chosen to become individual characters in the story and all the children have the opportunity to speak and enjoy Shakespeare’s words in short, accessible sections.
