A Midsummer Night’s Dream

for 6 to 11 year olds – performed in your school

* we are currently taking bookings for Spring Term 2018 *

“The Young Shakespeare Company are by far the most talented groups of actors to have performed in our school. The children became audience, chorus, sound effects and players, making Shakespeare inclusive to all. I would have no hesitation in recommending you to other primary schools”
Swillington Primary School, Leeds

A storyteller and four Young Shakespeare Company actors perform Shakespeare’s enchanting comic tale in a fast-moving fully-costumed interactive production. The play is brought vividly to life around and among the children, at times including the whole audience to create such enchanting scenes as the bustling Athenian market and the wood full of mysterious fairies and sprites. The performance concludes with the market traders’ hilarious rendition of ‘Pyramus and Thisbe’.

Throughout the performance the storyteller enables the children to become actively involved in the play through a carefully structured range of drama and language activities. They are encouraged to explore the motives, thoughts and feelings of the characters, exploring in detail how Hermia and her friends feel at every twist and turn of their confused night in the forest. Volunteers from among the children are also chosen to become individual characters in the story and all the children have the opportunity to speak and enjoy Shakespeare’s words in short, accessible sections.
